the big pile

adam felt half asleep and half awake. he did not feel like opening his eyes and if he were to believe his body, he somehow had fallen out of the sofa and landed on or in some kind of pile with god-knows-what? as those words formed in his mind, his ears played a prank with him. It was like he heard someone muttering: of course god knows what! accompanied by a little squeaking sound like from a trolly at the grocery store. and as his mind formed those thoughts the muttering came again: not a shopping cart, but yes, with a squeaky wheel. squeak, squeak.

he tried to move, but was unable to. and as he opened his eyes, everything seemed dark around him. in panic, he let out a high pitched cry, only to once again be met with the calm voice: left hand is free, remove the stuffed animal from your face. then you’ll see what’s next.

adam was confused, but followed the instructions of the unknown voice. he moved his left hand and grabbed something. as he lifted it, he could finally see, but his eyes could not really take in what he saw. in his hand, a stuffed animal, a kangaroo. underneath it, in the empty space that the removed kangaroo had left, he saw a yellow rubber duck. then he heard the voice again, followed by the squeaking.

humpti dumpti doo

jump up and down

little kangaroo

widdeli waddely

rubber duck

adam finds himself

really stuck

panncakes, eggs and milk

I am hungry, no haiku

stupid rhyme stop now

adam struggled for a while, as he tried to rise from the big pile of…

yes that’s right, god-knows what, the voice completed for him.

well back on his feet, he turned around to see a big pile of various toys, stuffed animals and what-not. how on earth had he ended up there?

no, not on earth.

for the first time adam tried to speak to the voice.

“where then? if not on earth, where?”

here of course.

“here? where is here?”

indeed, where is here?

enjoy!
